I left for work at 1:30pm, wife calls at 3:00pm and tells me this happened.
Any one had to replace one that knows a cost. Looks like some dumbass thought they could pry it open and shattered the glass instead. (I hate Garland) Second note: If the dealer charged me for window tint, and the window had only factory tint, should I let them know how pissed I am?

Man that sucks, but thats what insurance is for too. The dealer charged you for factory tint??

Well, being Sunday I cant call anyone. I think I may only have a $100 deductible.

But yes, the dealer said that the stripe and the tint were add on's that cost like $750 additional on the sticker. So all afternoon I was trying to figure out why the window (which was supposed to be tinted) shattered into lots of pieces.

Have you tried going through a local glass dealer?

How hot is it in Dallas this time of year, was the air set to recirrculuate? Living in Florida were it gets hot never seen this problem, also many others from even hotter states are on here never heard this discussed before.

man i hope something like this isn't heat related. for anyone who's visited VEGAS knows the temp can get up to 120 deg outside. so that means the inside the car can be up to 160 deg or more.

stuff like this do happen, During the summer, the rear quarter panel window on my old ZJ was shattered but was still in place and not on the floor. I believe all commanders came with rear tinted windows, dealers love lying to people about added cost for factory tinted windows. A simple "let me call chrysler and check" in front of the salesperson should set things straight.

The heat in your vehicle can cause this to happen. With all the glass on the outside...any marks on the frame that looks like someone tried to break in? Did you make a police report? You should. let them investigate it and see if they can determine the cause.

Is it a "Factory" addition or a "Dealer" add on? Call these guys and talk to them about it. Safelite Auto Glass...safelite manfactures glass for many manufacturers and does the replacement. Your dealer may call them....

Recommended places around Dallas

Gotta love Garland!!! While staying w/ the in-laws in Garland... I've had a window busted in my old Dodge and somebody sliced the rear window of the TJ.

Anyhow, Rooney.....I'm in the process of replacing the Commander's front windshield and I've called numerous places looking for the best price around Dallas and will choose one of the places listed below w/ the first one being the cheapest. Just give them a call and shop around.

Well it turns out the window will be replace for a mere $100. Which still pisses me off. Someone tried to pry it open. It looks like someone used a crowbar or screwdriver to try and pry the glass open by popping it out of the latch, but it shattered instead. I could tell because the plastic by the latch was pressed in passed a spring.

It sure as hell isnt hot right now.

I have a glass guy on the way right now. I had the wife call the police and they said they would do a report, but would not come out. I thought they would at least come patrol the neighborhood. I think that when the glass shattered, it scared the person bad enough to leave. So nothing was taken. The most expensive item in the Jeep is a car seat. Our Jeep is bare bones. Someone told me people are stealing spare tires now too.

What gets me....if the dealership charges extra for "tinting the windows", one would assume they put tint on ALL of the windows, not just the side. I cant find my window sticker, but I remember it was around $700 for that and the stripe. I feel like I got taken on that part.

Well, hopefully whoever was trying to break in got their face cut up and marked for life when the glass shattered. I hate when people do that. You worked hard to afford it, and someone tries to mess it up. Would love to catch them in the act. Sorry it happened to you.

well, the new glass is in and looks good. It was by PPG.
From the outside it looks darker, but inside looks just like the old one.
I had problems at first with the switch or sensor that shows the glass is closed.
Even when closed, it said the liftgate glass was open. I played with the latch and some other spring loaded part and eventually the problem went away. I think maybe a stray piece of glass was blocking a sensor or something. I dont know.

I plan to work on a camera tomorrow. It sucks that I do alarm and video for a living and didnt have a working one outside.

I have a camera in the front and back of my house. Someone did a hit and run while my neon was parked on the side of the road, so I installed cameras. Both are IR for night. Have it recording on my PC.

I put a "working" camera up tonight. someday I will get a real recorder instead of the time lapse vcr. I noticed tonight that the date stamp on my vcr stopped in 2007.

Can a mod change this thread title to "Broken rear window" or "vandalism" or something more appropriate for ease of locating?

Just get a DVR card for your computer and record it to your hard drive. I have a 250 GB hard drive that I use just for storing the data and it collects up to 3 weeks of data. I have it so each file is 20GB and then it starts a new file. When it reaches the end, it records over the oldest file.
